Peru is a big country - about twice the size of France - and so it's always worth making sure that you travel the right way: in comfort. Because Peru is so big, and because there isn't all that much of a train network, air travel is often the way to go and is backed up by very comfortable long-distance coaches. We work with the best, and most reliable companies in all these areas to ensure that our customers get where they want go, when they want to get there.
Flights in PeruThe main airline in Peru is LanPeru, an arm of the Chilean national carrier LanChile, who are part of the OneWorld group with BA, American Airlines, etc. They operate a fleet of modern aircraft (Boeing and Airbus planes) and have good standards of service and reliability. Lan are supplemented by flights from other companies such as StarPeru who are also reliable and well-established international carriers.
Trains in PeruOne alternative to flying can be to take the train, although the rail network is somewhat limited. You can get the train from Cusco to Machu Picchu and back, and also between Cusco and Puno but the Arequipa to Puno train has stopped and the Lima to Huancayo central train service is only operating irregularly - check our Peru travel news pages for updates. Even if these services aren't running, it's well worth making the Puno (Lake Titicaca) to Cusco trip by rail. The railway line runs right along the spine of the Andes and the scenery means it has to be one of the most spectacular railway journeys in the world.
Bus and coach travel in Peru
The backbone of Peru's travel network, however, is provided by
buses and coaches. They connect all cities and towns in Peru and provide a
quick, safe and economical way to travel - like National Express in the UK. In
Peru, there are literally hundreds of companies offering these services but we
only work with companies we know and trust. These include established names
like Cruz del Sur and OrmeƱo and also some of their newer rivals such as
FirstClass, Flores and Cial. They all operate modern fleets, with on-board bathrooms, films and
air-conditioning. They are perfectly comfortable and offer a good way to at see
bits of the country that otherwise you might miss.
Mix and match
We usually recommend a mixture of travel options, it completely
depends on the holiday we organise for you. It's all tailormade, so if you'd like to do something
different, we can arrange a private chauffeur for you, or arrange car hire - although we do recommend that you've seen Peruvian driving
before deciding to venture out on the roads yourself...
