More people will include some of the lesser-known areas in their Peru holiday this year, according to the regional tourist authorities of Ayacucho, Junin and Ica. The three departments have combined their research findings and they are expecting nearly 40,000 people to visit the three areas during Easter 2006.
Julio Mattos Gilvonio, regional tourism director for the Junin area, calculates that 20,000 national and international tourists will include the area as part of their Peru holiday this Easter. This is up more than 20% from 2005.
Ayacucho in particular is famed throughout South America for its Easter celebrations and it's no surprise that the city is also appearing on the Peru holiday itineraries of more and more international tourists! Many of our customers have enjoyed their Peru holidays in Ayacucho, and Ica, featuring as it does the desert oasis of Huacachina, is also a perennial favourite with Peru holiday-makers!
