MACHU PICCHU UPDATE - 04/02/10
Repair work started yesterday on the section of railway line between Aguas Calientes and the Hydro-electric power station - the latter is the closest you can get by road so the re-opening of this section will allow combined road/rail journeys from Cusco to Machu Picchu.
The good news is that Perurail have brought forward their estimated completion date to the 15th of February, which means that we only have a week and a half to wait until 'normal' service is resumed. The estimated timescale for the full train line to be repaired is still two months, but we are hopeful that as repair work continues, this too will be seen to be conservative.
