TREKKING IN PERU - THE TREKKING WONDERLAND

Adventure sports in Peru

Trekking in Peru is one of the best ways to take advantage of the country's incredible natural beauty and Peru offers a range of treks to suit all tastes, from those of you who want to do some serious hiking to those who would rather just try some day treks to see what Peru has to offer. It's an amazing way to get close to some of Peru's incredibly beautiful scenery, from turquoise glacial lagoons and snow-capped peaks, to mysterious cloud forest and tropical jungle.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is probably Peru's most famous trek and is a highlight of many holidays in Peru but for our money the best hiking in Peru is to be found a little further north, in the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash near Huaraz. As well as this, Peru offers many other opportunities for walking holidays and we offer a range of treks to suit everyone from beginners to serious walkers!

Inca Trail

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (4 days)

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of Peru's star attractions and it's not hard to see why. Although the altitude can be testing, the trek itself is suitable for just about everybody and offers not only beautiful scenery and unique wildlife but also an unparalleled way to approach the magical lost city of Machu Picchu. Not only do you get a tremendous feeling of satisfaction but you also get to see this stunning site before the trainloads of tourists arrive from Cusco. Click here for our full Inca Trail itinerary

Short Inca Trail trek Short Inca Trail (2 days)

If you don't have the time or inclination for the full 4-day Inca Trail, this shorter Inca Trail trek basically gives you the last day of the full trek, with a guided tour of Machu Picchu the next day once you've got your breath back! Click here for our shorter Inca Trail itinerary

Salkantay trek Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu (5 days)

More spectacular than the "Classic" Inca Trail, this alternative route via the Salkantay pass is a little tougher and higher as well. You get much more of a taste of the high Andes on this route before you descend to the utterly different semi-tropical cloud forest environment of Machu Picchu... Lares trek Lares trek (3 days)

If you think the Inca Trail might be a bit more than you can chew, then this more gentle 3-day trek, ending in the Sacred Valley, could be the one for you, offering stunning views over snow-capped peaks and glacial lagoons. Click here for the Lares trek itinerary

Choquequirao trek Choquequirao trek (4 days)

The little-known Inca site of Choquequirao is incredibly impressive and probably the only Inca site to compare to Machu Picchu. This excellent trek takes you through largely semi-tropical environments and can be extended to finish at Machu Picchu itself as well. Click here for our Choquequirao trek

Central Andes

Huaraz Santa Cruz trek Santa Cruz trek (4 days)

This lovely day trek is a great way to acclimatise for any of the longer treks in the Huaraz area. it offers a fairly steep ascent without extreme altitude, and the banks of the crater lake of Churup offer an unbeatable picnic-spot for your lunch! Lake Churup trek itinerary

Cordillera Huayhuash trek Cordillera Huayhuash (8 days)

For probably the best high-altitude trekking in the world, head to the Cordillera Huayhuash, south-east from Huaraz. The enormous snow-capped peaks, the stunning series of glacial lakes and the sheer remoteness of this amazing environment have to be seen to be believed. Click here for a full Huayhuash trek
